I’m The Weird oNE. When They Just Don’t Get You
The last thing I ever thought I would want to be known for is being the “weird one” the “crazy one.” But guess what, I’ve earned that title, and I wear it like a badge of honor.
Yes, I am out there, trying new things, stepping out of my comfort zone, taking risks, and failing sometimes. And you know what? They don’t get me. I used to believe that was a sign of not being a good friend or they didn’t care about me, but I have learned it’s not always the case.
There are many reasons why people don’t get you or your grand ideas, and most often, it’s because the vision you have is yours, not theirs.
But here’s the thing; it doesn’t really matter. What matters is accepting the reality that, sometimes, you have to go at it alone. And yes, it can be disheartening. Too many times, I’ve shared what I thought was a brilliant idea only to be met with either silence or a list of reasons why it wouldn’t work. It's definitely a letdown.
But there is a lesson in everything we do, right? I learned to move forward with it anyway.
Whenever you are making a change or pursuing a dream, you have to expect that people won’t always jump with excitement. And when you accept that response, you won’t let it hold you back from pursuing your goals.
Here are some tips on how to keep moving forward when they just don’t get you:
Focus on Your Goals, Not Their Opinions
One of the most important things to remember when dealing with people who don't understand your dreams is to stay focused on your goals, not their opinions. It's easy to get caught up in trying to convince others of your vision, but ultimately, it's your life and your journey. Keep your eyes on the prize and let your accomplishments do the talking.
Surround Yourself with Supportive People
While some people may not understand your dreams, plenty of others will. Seek out friends, mentors, and communities that share your passions and aspirations. These supportive individuals can provide encouragement, advice, and inspiration when you need it most.
Don't Share Your Dreams with Everyone
As the saying goes, "Don't cast your pearls before swine." In other words, don't share your dreams and aspirations with those who are unlikely to understand or support them. Instead, save your energy for taking action and making progress towards your goals.
Use Doubt as Fuel
When faced with doubters and naysayers, use their skepticism as fuel to push yourself even harder. Prove them wrong by achieving your goals and showing them what's possible. This determination and resilience will not only help you succeed but also inspire others to follow their own dreams.
Celebrate Your Achievements
Lastly, celebrate your achievements, both big and small. Recognizing your progress and accomplishments will keep you motivated and remind you of your capabilities. And who knows, your success may even change the minds of those who didn't get you in the first place.
In the end, it’s okay if they can’t see what you see. The dream, the idea, was placed in your heart for a reason.
Remember that every great idea was started by the weird one, before they became the great one!
Keep moving forward, and eventually, your accomplishments will speak for themselves. And those who didn't get you may finally understand.
It’s Possible!
